At Skills 4 UK, we are one of the UK’s leading consultancies in diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The company was established in 2006, by the current CEO Jayne Little, in response to issues identified in the government-commissioned Report, ‘Shaping a Fairer Future’.

The author of that report, Baroness Prosser – OBE and former Chair of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission – chaired a steering group that successfully delivered Skills 4 programmes into the UK engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors to address the skills shortages faced due to the lack of retention and progression of women.

Over the last twelve years, we have been working successfully with over 100 leading organisations to improve the attraction, retention and progression of a diverse and sustainable workforce.

Initially focussing on gender diversity, our multiple award-winning Career Development Programme for Women has been delivered to over 8,000 individuals. In recent years, the company has evolved alongside changes in legislation and UK business culture and now covers multiple strands of diversity through unconscious bias training and testing; inclusive leadership and management programmes and bespoke training and consultancy services.

Upon completion of our 2019 Women in Leadership Programme, those who attended recorded the following:

Higher levels of confidence/self-belief
Improved their communication skills
Improved their presentation skills
More positive about career progression

Of those that we have surveyed, 69% have taken on extra responsibilities within their current role while 23% had gone on to take a new role within the company by the end of the training programme.

Career Development Programme for Women.

Our  award-winning Career Development Programme has been designed to help women further their careers. The programme is now in its eighth year and has already helped over 4,000 women advance professionally.

The programme is normally delivered over three months. By the end of the final training session:

  • 97% of participants had a more proactive approach to career progression
  • 88% had higher levels of self-confidence
  • 58% had taken on more responsibility within their role and 18% had already taken on a new role

Skills 4 is working with WISE to open access to their Career Development and Returners programmes for women working in STEM roles in the advanced manufacturing, engineering and construction sector.

Skills 4 and WISE are focused on supporting women in STEM roles to succeed in their chosen careers and to inspire the next generation of girls and women.
